Wastewater Tanks. Oxidation Ditches. Large Diameter Pipes.
Sediment in Tanks and Oxidation Ditches
Sediment, grit, and debris accumulate in wastewater infrastructure. The quantity of debris and rate of accumulation continually vary making it extremely challenging for utilities managers and operators to know the conditions in the dark water within tanks, pipes, and oxidation ditches.
Maintaining optimal tank capacity and managing budgeted funding effectively is an ongoing balancing act for many utility operators. The challenge gives rise to some very real and tough-to-answer questions:
- What if I choose not to clean my tank, but it’s loaded with sediment, driving operating expenses up and performance down?
- What if I allocate funds for cleaning, but sediment is minimal, and I’ve wasted funds I needed elsewhere?
- Should we try to clean our tank ourselves?
- Or, what if there’s more sediment than expected, and I must deal with the added expense and the time lost to a change order?
Subject to the size of the tank, the difference of only 1 foot of grit can add up to well over $100,000 in cleaning costs. This variable creates risk and uncertainty for utility owners, operators, consultants, and contractors attempting to bid on wastewater projects that include tank cleaning as a bid item.
SediVision® technology works in open-top wastewater infrastructures of any size, including tanks, oxidation ditches, ponds, lagoons, and aeration basins. The technology can also be used in closed or covered wastewater tanks, as long as the covered tank has an accessible opening of at least 46 cm (18 inches) in diameter.
Sediment in Large Diameter Pipes
SediVision, LLC also provides inspection services for large-diameter gravity sewer pipes, delivering a highly accurate preview of sediment buildup in large diameter pipes. The ideal pipe diameter for inspections is 24 inches minimum and up to 200 inches maximum (16.7 feet).
Inspecting large diameter pipes quantifies the amount and location of grit in the pipe through a CCTV/Sonar assessment while the line remains online and underflow. The See, Clean & Verify℠ process offered in conjunction with SediVision's exclusive online cleaning partner allows owners to assess their systems, have sand and grit removed from selected lines, and reinspect to confirm cleaning, all while the lines remain online and underflow. The inspection reports delivered to the client follow NASSCO’s Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP™), and all SediVision, LLC technicians are PACP certified.
With sediment mapping, utility directors can review, without draining, sections of large-diameter sewer pipes that need maintenance or repairs or verify material removal after cleaning. The result is better project preparation, a more tailored solution, and a quicker outcome.
SEE
SediVision® technology SEES & MAPS sand, grit, and debris without taking your system offline.
Equipped with informed data showing the mapped quantity and location of debris, facilities can plan budgets and strategically schedule maintenance and cleaning.
Sediment Mapping:
- Full and operating wastewater tanks
- Large diameter pipes
- Oxidation ditches
- Lagoons and ponds
CLEAN
Utilities may select U.S. Submergent Technologies, LLC (USST) through a competitive bid process. USST provides sand, grit, and residual removal from hard-to-reach wet environments without draining or bypass pumping.
Additionally, once debris is located, it can be cleaned using a one-of-a-kind patented technology to produce results other equipment can’t match. While most vacuum trucks only have a vacuum, the USST Combination3® Truck features a jetter and combined vacuum and downhole system to remove debris safely and efficiently in wet or dry conditions. Our crews use technology to minimize the need for confined space entry, keeping job sites safer and completing the work faster. Equipment can maneuver through long runs of pipes and navigate modest turns in submerged conditions.
Cleaning for Wastewater:
- Full wastewater tanks
- Large diameter pipes
- Oxidation ditches
- Aeration basins
- Lagoons and ponds
- Lift stations
Cleaning for Potable Water:
- Clean potable/drinking water tanks
VERIFY
With visibility in submerged tank conditions, civil engineers, wastewater operators, and utility managers can view the condition of their wastewater tanks and pipes before and after the cleaning process.
Results are measurable and verifiable:
- Re-scan with SediVision® services to know with certainty that structures are effectively cleaned.
- Or, compare the tonnage from disposal tickets with previously mapped SediVision® results.
